Fire in Piltdown Rise, Uckfield

Fire in Piltdown Rise, Uckfield

Six fire engines were called to a blaze in Piltdown Rise, Uckfield, at 5.25pm today.

Nobody was inside the house and there were no casualties.

It started in two sheds and spread to a house, according to East Sussex Fire and Rescue.

Eight breathing apparatus were worn as firefighters tackled the blaze in the roof from inside the house.

The fire was under control by 7.31pm but the fire service was still at the scene half an hour later and expected to be there for some time.

Motorists were allowed to drive over a fire hose that stretched across Downsview Crescent into Pine Walk.

Browns Lane was closed to traffic travelling down the hill. It was diverted along Downsview Crescent.
