Playground gets a new look at Holy Cross School, Uckfield
Improvements have been made to the playground at Holy Cross School, Uckfield, with the help of a donation from the Uckfield Rugby Club Founding Fathers.
Members of the school’s Parents and Friends’ Association have improved the playground and entrance, creating colourful flower beds and seats for pupils.
Large willow tunnels, a favourite at playtime, have also been re-woven. The Founding Fathers’ donation provided a lavender and rosemary planter seat and the children themselves are to plant bulbs to be enjoyed in the spring.
The Rev Brian Wilcox, who said farewell to Uckfield on Sunday at a service marking his retirement, went to the school to bless the work done and the bulbs the children will plant.
Deputy head Melissa Ash said: ‘It is wonderful to see the older children sitting out at lunchtime on the new seating, reading and chatting with friends. Along with the recent playground paintings, large chess set and other giant games the playground is a fun and stimulating place for all."
Prospective new pupils and parents are invited to visit the school to see the improvements for themselves.
Parents and carers are invited to a harvest festival service at the church followed by a brunch at the school on the morning of September 24.
Open mornings and an open evening will also be held over the next two terms.
