Uckfield and villages prepare for polling day
A “super-Thursday” polling day is just weeks away.
On May 5 polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm for electors to cast votes in:
- A referendum on the voting system for UK Parliamentary elections;
- Full district council elections; and
- Full parish council elections.
Wealden district and parish nomination packs are now available from Wealden’s electoral services department.
Nomination papers may be delivered to the council’s Crowborough office from March 22 to noon on April 4.
In the Uckfield area the wards to be contested are:
Buxted and Maresfield (inc Hadlow Down) where the current councillors are Norman Buck and Ken Ogden.
Chiddingly and East Hoathly, current councillor - Barby Dashwood-Hall. Danehill.
Fletching and Nutley (including Little Horsted), sitting councillors - Roy Galley and Sylvia Martin.
Framfield (including Blackboys), current councillor - Ann Newton.
Uckfield Central, current councillor – Claire Dowling.
Uckfield New Town – current councillor – Carol Sweetland.
Uckfield North – sitting councillors – Paul Sparks and Alan Whittaker.
Uckfield Ridgewood – the seat is vacant following the resignation of Bob Sweetland on February 7. There has been no by-election because the vacancy arose less than six months before the whole council election was due.
At Hadlow Down, concerns are mounting over the seeming lack of interest in people becoming parish councillors.
Parishioners have been warned there is a danger the village could “lose its independence” and people not connected with the village could be making decisions about its finances and future.
If you are interested in standing for election at Hadlow Down, ring the parish council clerk on: 01435 860959 or email on: hadlowdownpc@btconnect.com.
