£1m set aside for pothole repairs
Twenty extra maintenance gangs are working in East Sussex to systematically seek out and repair potholes in roads damaged during freezing weather conditions.
The county council is investing £1 million to mend the potholes and a further £500,000 in clearing ditches and road gulleys which have become blocked.
In the spring a two year programme of improvements to the county's road network is due to begin. This will involve an investment of £8.5 million.
Cllr Matthew Lock, lead cabinet member for transport and environment said: 'We recognise that, like many other parts of the country, our roads have suffered as a result of the recent freezing weather, but following this announcement residents can look forward to better and safer roads.'
*Some of the worst potholes in Uckfield were described on the Uckfield News Facebook fan page. They included an 'elephant trap' in Downsview Crescent near the Tesco Express store, a number in Library Way, some on Bird in Eye Hill and some on the A272 between Uckfield and Buxted.
