Power cuts hit Uckfield

Power cuts hit about 2,500 homes and businesses in Uckfield yesterday.

EDF Energy said a fault on the electricity distribution network affected about 1,500 customers in an area spreading out from Horsted Square on the Bellbrook Business Park at 6.10pm.

Engineers had to isolate supplies to more customers in the centre of town as they worked.

At 7.08pm 1,435 customers had power again, with more than 800 back on at 7.15pm. The final 365 customers had power at 1am today.

An EDF spokesman said: "We appreciate how difficult it can be to lose power and would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by this incident.
