New support for re-opening rail line

New hope for the re-opening of the Uckfield to Lewes railway line has emerged.

The Sunday Telegraph yesterday reported the Association of Train Operating Companies is 'due to give unprecedented backing to the restoration of disused track and the reintroduction of passenger services on freight routes'.

The newspaper gave the Uckfield to Lewes route as an example of lines that could be 'prioritised for re-opening'. One note of caution in the report was that at the moment it was not clear how the funding would work.

There has been a long campiagn to re-open the line, which was closed in 1969.
