Uckfield's new railway station building takes shape
Builders were on site at Uckfield railway station yesterday (Sunday) working on new facilities which should be finished next month.
Our picture, left, was taken from the Co-op car park and gives an idea of the scale of the work. Another picture below gives a view from Mill Lane.
Once completed there will be increased seating for passengers, more bicycle parking, space for a small shop, additional shelters on the platform and a unisex toilet.
Southern said, when announcing the work, that the new building would be easier for staff to maintain and provide more resistance to vandalism.
The key to the design and construction is the use of off-site manufactured components that enable rapid assembly on pre-prepared foundations.
