Uckfield Rotary Club raises more than £5,000 over Christmas period
Uckfield Rotary Club raised more than £5,321 for charity over the Christmas period.
Donations of £3,195 were collected next to the town's Christmas tree on the corner of High Street and Civic Approach and the sale of ribbons to go on the tree in memory of loved ones raised £361.
An additional £1,765 was raised through the President's Appeal.
The Rotary Club said the money would be put to good use for the benefit of the young and more mature people of Uckfield and district who "need a helping hand". Some will also go in aid following disasters throughout the world, particularly through Shelter Box which sends equipment to trouble spots.
The club said: "The Rotary Club of Uckfield would like to thank the kind people who donated. They included young children who often prompted their parents into giving, many teenagers and often those less able to give. It was generally a pleasure to stand on the High Street and talk to people."
