Meet the Uckfield Rubettes
Meet Tanya Rossi and the Rubettes.
These are the puppies we wrote about at the time of the Royal Wedding of William and Katherine.
Tanya told us then how she watched the ceremony on television from under the stairs because she was caring for the pups there while their mother Ruby recovered from a caesarean. See Strangest place to watch the Royal Wedding.
The Rubettes name was given to the clan by a family friend and has stuck ever since.
It has been a traumatic few weeks for Tanya, her husband Tony and their son Kyle, aged 14, because Ruby, a West Highland Terrier, had an unexpectedly big litter of seven puppies.
Sadly one died at birth and another, Dotti, was lost on Saturday after a long battle for survival.
Tanya had been feeding Dotti every two hours because she failed to thrive like her sister Rosie and brothers Van Doggie, also known as Goldie, Batman, Robin and PP.
There was a time, when the puppies were about four weeks old, that it looked as if Dotti would be all right. She played with the others happily but sadly went downhill again. She is much missed now by Ruby, the Rossi family and their friends.
It will soon be time for the puppies, which are part Shih-Tzu, to start leaving their home in Mill Drove, Uckfield.
Tanya would really like to keep them all but two have been promised to a friend in Hove.
“I have looked after litters before but this has been very difficult,” said Tanya. “I don’t know how we would have managed if it wasn’t for friends keeping us going, helping in so many ways including getting shopping when I couldn’t get out.
“I would like to say a big thank you to everybody who has helped, all the people who have been coming in and giving me support.”
