Uckfield schools close early
Schools in the Uckfield area have closed early today (November 30).
Most of the closures came around lunchtime after steady snowfall during the morning.
Parents of primary school children were asked to collect pupils as soon as possible.
The community college pupils went home at 2pm.
The district had woken to a light covering of snow and more fell from leaden skies as the day went on.
With the temperature hovering around freezing, headteachers were concerned that frozen surfaces would make travelling hazardous.
Schools that called it a day early included Uckfield Community Technology College, Manor Primary School, Buxted Primary School, High Hurstwood Primary School and Blackboys Primary School.
