Pedestrian crossing hopes recede

Hopes of getting a new pedestrian crossing near a busy junction in Uckfield have receded, according to county council data.

A council report says the crossing is wanted at Southview Drive near the junction with the High Street.   It is now No 57 on the priority list having been number 52 in the 2008.

Rubert Clubb, the council's director of transport and environment, says in a report to a meeting at county hall next week that the target is to construct two signal-operated crossings each year.

A formula, taking account of traffic flow, pedestrian use and accidents, is used to determine priorities.   A plea for a crossing at the Coopers Green crossroads, Buxted, is No 52 on the list - a new entry in 2009.
