Council hopes to improve street cleaning across district
Wealden Council is considering ways of improving street cleaning across the district and a list of recommendations will go before the environment scrutiny committee today (Wednesday, April 21).
They include encouraging towns and parishes to increase levels of volunteering while offering help and advice with the risk framework covering legal, health and safety issues and insurance.
There is also the possibility of extending the district’s resources to Saturday and Sunday community litter picking.
Another suggestion is to carry out educational campaigns and visits aimed a adults and young people.
The district council could also support towns and parishes in ‘greening’ the street scene and look into the possible bulk buying by the council for special events such as the Hailsham in Bloom event.
Also recommended is seeking help in finding more neighbourhood recycling points and considering setting up a town council neighbourhood composting scheme.
