Chance to have your say on turning off Uckfield street lights

Chance to have your say on turning off Uckfield street lights

There will be chance to have your say at a public meeting next month on plans to turn off or dim street lights in Uckfield after midnight.

Proposals also include reducing the number of lights in some streets.

Detailed plans will be on display in Uckfield Civic Centre on Saturday, October 1, between 10am and 1pm.

There will also be chance to comment on them.

East Sussex County Council is trying to reduce its electricity bill.

It says: “The extent of the savings we have to make over the next four years has been widely publicised.

“Funding reductions of this scale mean we cannot carry on providing all our services in exactly the same way we do now and we currently spend close on £1.5 million on our street lighting electricity bill.

“Making changes to street lighting will help us achieve these savings but also help us reduce our carbon emissions and protect the environment.”

The plans for Uckfield follow a similar pilot scheme in Heathfield where a combination of options were introduced.

They included switching off most lighting in residential streets between midnight and 5.30am and dimming lights on main traffic routes.
