Transport grants benefit Uckfield

Three community transport operators have been awarded grants totalling more than £20,000 by East Sussex County Council to improve services in the Uckfield area.

They include £17,320 to Community Transport for the Lewes Area for its Uckfield Rover, described as  "a responsive four days per week service for residents in and around Uckfield, Ridgewood, West Park, Manor Park and Ringles Cross".

The service was launched to fill the gap for a door to door service to access medical and shopping facilities.

Funds of £4,000 were also allocated to the North Wealden Community Transport Partnership for its door to door shopping service and group educational and leisure outings.

This service has been expanded to include parts of Uckfield, Buxted, Hadlow Down and Rotherfield.

A grant of £500 has also been given to Age Concern, Uckfield, towards expansion of its voluntary car scheme which helps elderly people with transport to hospitals and clinics.

Full details of the grants are included in a report to an East Sussex County Council transport and environment committee which meets today (Wednesday, June 16).
