Uckfield driver tells how tree crashed down on to his car
An Uckfield driver has told how a tree fell in high winds yesterday and smashed on top of his car as he headed along Lewes Road .
Nigel Woods, of Woods Properties, who lives nearby, said the windscreen caved in and the roof dented but luckily most of the damage was on the passenger side and he was the only person in the car.
Mr Woods said: "Lewes Road was closed off whilst other motorists helped saw up the branches and take them to the site of the road. The police were in attendance.
"The tree came crashing down and hit my windscreen with such force that it just caved in. Had there been a passenger in the car they would almost certainly have been injured."
Mr Woods said more than £2,000 damage was caused by the accident and it was likely he would lose his no claims bonus because insurance companies regarded this type of event as an "act of God".
Thanks to Mr Woods for sending us the pictures below. The top one shows damage to his car and the other shows the tree down in the road.
