More than 100 wait for allotments

More than 100 people have their names on a waiting list for allotments in Uckfield and the town council is considering reclaiming overgrown plots at Ridgewood to help meet demand.

There are currently 25 whole allotments on the site with some divided in two providing 39 cultivated plots in total.

But another section of the land is overgrown with trees and brambles following a previous trend away from the use of allotments.

The council has recently cleared a boundary ditch between the allotments and the Millennium Green which has opened up the area and it has been suggested that further work could allow ten more half plots to be reclaimed.

Tonight's meeting of the enviornment and leisure committee is due to consider moving funds within accounts to fund the £2,850 cost of carrying out the work.
