Free parking to continue

Free car parking in Uckfield will continue.

Leader of Wealden District Council, Cllr Pam Doodes, said this week: “Free car parking encourages the local economy in our market towns and we will continue with our policy not to charge.”

Cllr Doodes will present a wide-ranging “health check” on the district to next week’s meeting of the council’s Cabinet.

She also said in the report: “Our small businesses, the majority with fewer than ten employees, and the rapidly rising number of self-employed home workers are the backbone of economic activity in Wealden.”

She added that broadband of a suitable speed was vital if small businesses are to compete and prosper and that the council will continue to raise the issue with the government and service providers.

* Town centre plans go on show tomorrow (Friday, October 9) from 2.30 to 7.30pm at the civic centre.
