Skateboarders compete at new park
More than 70 people went along to the Uckfield Skate Park on Sunday for a competition organised by users who wanted to say thank you to the people who helped provide the venue.
One of the organisers Matt Ransom said they wanted to show they were not taking the park for granted.
They also wanted to show appreciation for the work done by the late Barry Knights who, as Uckfield town co-ordinator, helped source funding for the project.
The park has been dedicated to Barry's memory and guest of honour on Sunday was Barry's wife Carol who was accompanied by their son Brandon. They are pictured below in a photograph taken by Ron Hill.
Also among guests was the mayor of Uckfield, Cllr Len Ashby.
Competition prizes were donated by PipeDreams and Million Clothing of Uckfield and by South in Tunbridge Wells.
Matt said skaters came from as far afield as Brighton, Worthing and Tunbridge Wells to take part in the competition and funds were raised towards the second phase of the project which will extend the park.
He added: 'We're lucky to have a skate park like this in a small town like Uckfield.'
Daniel Scott who also helped with planning and fund-raising for the park said Sunday's event was 'absolutely fantastic' and it was a rewarding experience to see so many people using it.
