1,000 have say on future planning
More than 1,100 people have given their views on how the Wealden district could be developed over the next 15 years.
Ten possible options are being considered by the council which held nine drop-in exhibitions during the summer, including one in Uckfield.
Briefing sessions have also been held with business representatives, town and parish councils and other interested groups.
The council expects to publish its draft strategy in the middle of next year. Options for housing growth include: *Focusing growth on Uckfield and Hailsham; * Focusing growth on Uckfield and Polegate.
The possibility of concentrating growth in the Lewes-Uckfield railway line catchment is also considered.
Published county council figures show that all the options on the table include a large growth in the number of houses in Uckfield. In two instances the total number of homes would grow by a projected 30 per cent.
