Uckfield mum plans parachute jump to help daughter

Uckfield mum Rebecca Brooks-Weir is to do a parachute jump in October to raise funds to help pay for treatment for her daughter's rare disease and for a charity which helps similar sufferers.

Nine-year-old Georgia Allen, who attends Bonners Primary School in Maresfield, has Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease which is incurable and progressive and affects nerves and muscles in her arms and legs. It is a condition inherited from her father's side of the family.

Rebecca said: "But she is okay, she is a trooper and really looking forward to watching me do the parachute jump."

She went on to say that Georgia is very happy at school and staff there have been "amazing" in helping meet her special needs since mother and daughter moved back to this area a year ago. Rebecca grew up in Haywards Heath before moving to Devon.

Georgia was only a baby when her mother realised she had mobility problems and she walks now with the aid of leg braces which Rebecca has paid for privately.

"Her condition started worsening rapidly and she was using a wheelchair more and more then I started paying for the private treatment in London and she has been much better since," said Rebecca.

"I am hoping to raise about £1,000 in sponsorship through the parachute jump to put towards replacement leg braces each year and for the only CMT charity we have in this country," she added.

Rebecca will make her fund-raising jump on October 16 at Salisbury.
