Uckfield gears up for Christmas
A new tea shop opens in Uckfield today in a shop at the top of town next to Limelight.
It is being run by Maggie Evans – whose husband runs The Clockery across the road – and she promises home-made fare, writes Cathy Watson.
The shop was previously used as a surveyor’s office and will be perfectly placed when a cuppa is needed while shopping in that part of town.
At the bottom of town a new letting agency Martin & Co has moved in to the former mobile phone shop.
Across the road from there a new ‘boudoir boutique’ Tres Jolie has been preparing to open in premises that used to be occupied by a beauty salon, next to Chameleon.
Late night shopping
Preparations are stepping up for Christmas in town now with the Chamber of Commerce’s Festive Fantasies brochure on its way to the printer.
Make sure you have the late night opening date in your diary: Friday, December 10.
Another event to remember is the Christmas Indulgence Fayre at Uckfield Community Technology College on Saturday, November 27, from 12 to 4pm.
At Parade Radio tucked away off the High Street at the top of town Linda Miklaucich has been unpacking Christmas lights ready for sale. She is pictured here.

This electrical shop is the place to go when you have a problem with electrical equipment so do call in. It is easy to forget these days that repair is possible.
Have you caught up with the scooter craze yet?
PipeDreams has Razor Scooters and scooter accessories on sale now and they are expected to prove popular this Christmas.
The fun-loving will also be attracted to the mountain boards, inline skates and skateboards on display.
There’s winter clothing too for all the family from Animal, O’Neill, Quiksilver and Roxy and if you are planning a ski trip or want to prepare for a White Winter then a pre-season ski sale is under way there.
At Footcraft new glassware, leather goods, silverware and jewellery should soon be arriving especially for Christmas.
Gifts bought there can be personalised with engraving.
Luxury Christmas gift hampers are now available at Corbins of Uckfield and owner Mark Allen is pictured with the Organic Products Hamper at £60.

Others range in price from £32.50 for claret and cheddar up to the Connoisseur Hamper at £199.
At Noble Wines, owner Charles Mears-Lamb, is planning to have Champagne on special offer.
The Leon Launois normally costs £19.99 but will be reduced to £15.50.
There will also be reductions on popular New Zealand Crystal Bay, a Sauvignon Blanc, from £9.99 to £6.99 and the Argentinian red Solera normally £5.99 but on offer at two for £10.
Glasses, flasks, cocktail sticks and stirrers are among other gifts which can be bought there. Charles is pictured below.

If you are searching for the ideal cookery book as a gift then why not pop along to The Chequers Hotel on Saturday, November 6, where celebrity chef Marco Pierre White will be signing copies of his new book Marco Made Easy.
You are welcome to call in and see him between 12.30 and 2pm.
If you would like to give your child a special book with a positive message then do look out for Why can’t I Fly by Uckfield author Trisha Bridger.
We caught up with Trisha earlier this year when she did a book signing at the Sussex Stationers.
She wrote the book for her daughter Niamh who was struggling to come to terms with diabetes, an illness she was diagnosed with having when she was two.
Now the book is being sold across the country to raise awareness of the disease and to raise funds for Diabetes UK.
