Budding entrepreneurs rise to a challenge at Uckfield school
Children at St Philip’s Primary School in Uckfield proved themselves to be budding entrepreneurs during the school’s Enterprise Week.
Each class was given £50 with the aim of using it to make more money – a challenge they all met with flying colours.
Some classes used their money to buy ingredients to bake cakes and cookies, whilst others made felt brooches, rice filled door stops, flower arrangements and fridge calendars.
Year 3 took a green approach to the project, recycling juice cartons to make bird feeds and producing cat toys from recycled class art left-overs.
Art and Design Technology featured highly throughout the week, however it was maths, says headteacher, Fran Morrison, that was the real focus of the week.
‘We combined our annual maths week with enterprise week this year so that the children could apply the maths they are learning to real life situations.
"It has been wonderful to watch children from all classes working out change, estimating prices, thinking about profit margins and weighing and measuring."
Each class will now choose what it would like to spend the money it has raised on.
