Children grow their own produce for harvest service, Uckfield
Children grew their own produce for the Holy Cross School harvest festival celebration which was held at church today.
Members of the primary school's gardening club grew potatoes, carrots, beetroot, courgettes, tomatoes, beans, lettuce, marrow and their favourite ... a pumpkin.
The planting beds were created at Easter and the crops were sown in early summer under the guidance of caretaker Bob Burchett who said: "The children have really taken to growing vegetables and wish it was gardening club every day of the week."
Children from neighbouring nurseries JHM and Spire joined in the harvest celebration.
The plan is for some of the organic produce to be sold to raise money for the Diocese of Chichester's Harvest 2011 appeal, supporting those in need in West Africa.
Dried gifts were offered by children and families to support Knowles Tooth Family Support Centre.
Thanks to Ron Hill for the photograph.
