‘Marvellous Manor’ – Uckfield school does it again
Children at Manor Primary School, Uckfield, have raised more than £4,500 for NSPCC and Childline.
Maxine Peel-Yates from the NSPCC presented a special assembly to the children to raise awareness of the charity and to ask the children to fundraise.
The Year 6 school councillors took on the challenge to organise The Big Workout and each class took part in a range of physical activities in their PE lessons.
Children asked their family members and friends to sponsor each activity.
The Big Challenge took place over two weeks in June and everyone involved has been amazed by the fantastic amount that has been raised.
Maxine Peel-Yates returned to Manor to present certificates and said: “I have loved Manor’s enthusiasm and the way they have thrown themselves into the activities to help other children. I spend all my time asking for help and today I have been able to say a very, very big thank you.”
Children in assembly were told that it takes £1,000 to train a counsellor who can help up to 200 children per year and that crayons and paper that children use to express their problems just cost a few pence.
Kaye Blaney, Deputy Headteacher, said: ”We are very proud of all the children who took part and hugely grateful to their families who have been so generous in their support. Our school councillors did a super job organising this event and we look forward to continuing to work with the NSPCC and Childline in the future.”
