Children plant orchard at Uckfield primary school
It was a rainy day for the planting of an orchard at Manor Primary School in Uckfield yesterday but there were plenty of cheerful faces as everybody turned out to get the job done.
Business manager Ruth Martin said afterwards on the Uckfield News Facebook page: "We've had a wonderful day, despite the weather. Our Jubilee Orchard, full of lovely old Sussex varieties of apples, pears and plums looks great.
"A big thank you to everyone at school for making today such a success. Thank you too to those of you who came in to dig holes and baked delicious appley treats for us to sell."
The five apple, two pear and one plum tree were planted to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Year and the whole of yesterday was dedicated to doing apple-based science, literacy, art, games and music sessions.
