Enterprising Uckfield youngsters help Ugandan family
Year 6 pupils at Manor Primary School, Uckfield, raised more than £600 for charity in one afternoon last week.
The enterprising youngsters offered fellow pupils chance to dress up and have action photos taken in front of exciting back drops.
Throughout an afternoon pupils dressed as everything from pirates and princesses to jungle explorers.
They each paid 50p for their photo.
The Year 6 pupils organised the whole afternoon including designing sets, taking the photos, printing and laminating them.
The money will go towards helping a child and grandma they sponsor in the village of Kabubu, Uganda.
Manor Primary School is committed to raising £360 a year for the Quicken Trust in Kabbubi and the scale of the success of fund-raising last week took everybody by surprise.
"There was a real production line going," said Karen Miles, the teaching assistant who set up the link with the Quicken Trust. "They have worked really hard and I am so proud of them all. Sir Alan Sugar would be very impressed.
"We know the money raised will pay for a year's education and lots more. We can't wait to ask the family we support what they need most, knowing that we can help in a really meaningful way."
Year 6 pupil Louis Hall, pictured above, had the original idea. He said: "We just wanted to help the people we sponsor have some of the things we take for granted."
Thanks to Ron Hill for the photographs.
