Uckfield children turn the clock back to Victorian era

'Old school' discipline was experienced at Manor Primary School, Uckfield, when a Victorian day was held there.

Children and teachers were dressed in costumes from the era and Mrs Peasgood and Mrs Whensley subjected their pupils to grim stares.

The children sat in straight rows and stood to attention every time an adult entered the classroom.

"It was very scary," said Izzy Heraty. "We learned that school was much stricter in the old days and that children were seen but not heard."

There was light relief in the afternoon when there was chance to try Victorian crafts, such as making flicker books and silhouette pictures.

Thanks to Ron Hill for the pictures.
