Flying visit by Eagles' number 1
Eastbourne’s new No 1 Matej Zagar has made a flying visit to England ahead of the 2010 campaign, writes Paul Watson.
The Slovenian flew into Heathrow and went to the Hove HQ of Dugard Machine Tools to meet club boss Bob Dugard and co-promoter Trevor Geer.
He then went on to talk to the other co-promoter Mike Bellerby.
Zagar, who will ride on loan from Swindon, signed his contract and left all who met him with a good impression.
The Eagles also outlined to him what they hoped he would achieve – especially being able to go away tracks and score maximum points.
Bellerby said: “He is coming knowing what is expected and what we are looking for. If he does the business for us I think we have the makings of a good team.”
The nature of Zagar’s visit meant it was not possible to fix up a fans’ meeting with him. However, the club will hold a supporters’ meeting at the stadium probably during the second weekend of February.
Cam Woodward should be back from Australia by then and it would be no surprise if he was unveiled as club captain. A meeting for track staff is pencilled in for the last Sunday of February.
