150 enjoy celebration at Herons Ghyll care home
More than 150 people went along to a five-star celebration at Manor Gardens care home at Herons Ghyll on Saturday, August 20.
Residents invited family and friends to a party where there was a barbecue and entertainment for all, including face painting for children.
A bonus was that a raffle raised £350 which will be split between Cancer Research and the organisation of more activities for the residents of Manor Gardens.
Chef Gloria Satterfield, who recently earned the home a five-star award from Wealden District Council and the Food Standards Agency, enjoyed catering on a large scale. There were marquees in the grounds and guests were greeted with Pimms and canapés.
“Our suppliers were very generous in making donations towards the event,” said Gloria. Gunne Butchers at Bexhill gave burgers, sausages and chicken and Turners Fine Foods at Goudhurst gave an Old Sussex Cheddar Cheese.
Among raffle prizes was fruit donated by Fresh Direct at Mayfield. Activities co-ordinator Stephanie Wheeler said guests donated more prizes and then bought tickets too.
Joanne Ellison, one of the owners of Manor Gardens, said: “We had an incredible day and I am really pleased with the way it went. It was lovely for the families of the residents to enjoy the beautiful gardens.
“It was great for the morale of staff that the party went so well. They worked very hard and it was good to see so many happy faces among our residents and guests. It certainly makes up for the disappointment of cancelling a Christmas party when everybody was snowbound.”
There are 44 residents at Manor Gardens, with places for 16 more people, and 62 members of staff on the books.
Joanne said: “We have expanded slowly to focus on recruiting the right staff, local people who are committed to their role in caring for the elderly, and now we are looking forward to building on what has been achieved.
“All of our residents have come to us via word of mouth and everybody here is dedicated to making this a happy home for them.”
