Church bells ring out in Uckfield to mark special anniversary
The bells of Holy Cross Church rang out in Uckfield on Monday as the Sussex Association of Change Ringers celebrated its 125th anniversary.
Celebratory peals are due to be rung at churches across Sussex during the anniversary year.
The Holy Cross tower was one of the association's 25 founder towers and the bells rang out of there when the organisation was inaugurated.
Eight members of the association, including three past masters, rang a peal of 5024 changes of Bristol Surprise Major on Monday. It took two hours and 47 minutes.
Marisa Hayes, one of the ringers said: "The bells have a lovely tone and are relatively easy to ring. The time absolutely whizzed by."
The rector, the Rev Brian Wilcox wished the ringers well saying he was pleased the church could be part of the anniversary celebrations.
The ringers were 1. David Smith, Warnham (Association Past Master), 2. Marisa Hayes, Ringmer, 3. Jonathan Franklin, Ringmer (Association Past Master, 4. Peter Wilkinson, Westbourne, 5.
