Celebrity chef Marco Pierre White makes book signing event a treat
Update: Marco is planning a second book signing event on Saturday, November 27. You will be welcome to go along to the Chequers between 4 and 6pm to meet him.
Celebrity chef Marco Pierre White made his book signing event at Maresfield a treat for fans who queued to meet him on Saturday.
They were offered mulled wine while in the queue, enjoyed a leisurely chat as he personalised comments in their Marco Made Easy books and then posed for photographs with him, writes Cathy Watson.
Marco brought two photographers with him to The Chequers, one took pictures which, we were told, would be added to his website ready for download, and the other used visitors' own cameras to record their meeting with the chef.
It was a big day for trainee chef Rose Benians, from Uckfield, who was looking forward to telling peers at the West Kent College in Tonbridge all about the event.
Marco signed her book and wrote a message on her chef's neckerchief: "Never forget mother nature is the true artist. You are the cook. With great respect, Marco."
He also invited her to apply for a job at The Chequers. "I told him I wasn't qualified yet but he said I didn't need to be, I just needed to be hard working and respectful," she said.
Rose contrasted Marco's book signing with the time she queued for five hours in Brighton to get Peter Andre's signature. There was no conversation there just a quick scribble on the CD. "It was still worth it," she said. "But this is special."
Penny Sergeant, also from Uckfield, was delighted with the time Marco took over the message in the book she was buying as a Christmas present for a relative. She is pictured with him above.
