International camp in Uckfield
Youngsters from Germany, France, Latvia, Finland and Sweden came to Uckfield at the weekend for an international youth camp.
There were 42 altogether, including representatives from Uckfield, with 20 leaders and they will be staying until Saturday at the Uckfield Community Technology College playing fields.
The camp was officially opened by the Lord Lieutenant of Sussex Mr Peter Field and guests were greeted by the Mayor of Uckfield Cllr John Carvey.
Grants towards funding the event came from the European Youth in Action fund and Uckfield Town Council with sponsorship from TR Fastenings, The Rotary Club, The Territorial Army, Uckfield Community Technology College, Uckfield Library, The Uckfield Festival Society and Freedom Leisure.
Concessionary prices were offered by Millets and many local people gave their time and supported fund raising events which included a sponsored cycle ride from London to Paris and a concert by the Luv Nuggets at St Philip's School.
The camp leader is Dr Martyn Stenning. He is being helped by Alan Morton, Vivien Stenning, Jackie Nolan, Francis and Jacky Wallace, Liz Pryke and other members of the Uckfield and District Twinning Association.
