Flowers in tip top condition at Uckfield horticultural society show

Dry weather before the Uckfield and District Horticultural Society Summer Show meant flowers stayed in good condition for the big day.

There were dahlias and chrysanthemums along with sweet peas and roses which scented the atmosphere.

Forty-one exhibitors staged 300 entries at the Weald Hall at Uckfield Civic Centre on Saturday.

There were a large number of entries in the vegetable classes with enormous cabbages and marrows, uniform beans and tiny tomatoes. There were also the heaviest potatoes and onions along with the most unusual shaped vegetables.

There were many entries in the flower arranging, cookery and handicraft sections too. One of the flower arranging themes was 'lace' which prompted the most delicate of arrangements.

Cookery entries included macaroons, fruit cake and Victoria sponge and handicrafts ranged from woodwork to knitted and sewn articles.

President Mrs Elizabeth Green presented the prizes. She thanked the exhibitors and the committee and society members for the hard work they put in to make the show a success.
