Uckfield's deputy mayor braves wet sponges and hot chilli burger

Uckfield's deputy mayor was put in the stocks on Saturday and had wet sponges thrown at him - all to raise money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Visitors to the town's Farmers' Market were encouraged to spend £1 for each wet sponge thrown at Cllr Duncan Bennett.

After that Cllr Bennett went on to accept a challenge from Roger and Nick Hoggins, who run the market, to eat a very hot chilli burger. He didn't even flinch as he devoured it as one of the pictures below, from Ron Hill, shows.
