Shingles from a Buxted church spire auctioned at art show
Discarded shingles from a Buxted church spire were auctioned at a village art club exhibition last weekend.
The shingles, from St Margaret the Queen, in Buxted Park, were replaced in 2010 having been in place for 43 years. A certificate of authenticity came with each one, signed by Patricia Weeks the churchwarden.
Members of the Buxted Art Club created their own paintings on the unusual shaped and textured shingels, which varied from a kingfisher to a ilhouette of trees and church spire over a dramatic sky, which can often be seen in Buxted Park.
About £150 was raised for the church from the silent auction and a raffle raised £136 for the Pestalozzi International Village Trust at Seddlescombe.
There were 115 catalogued entries in the exhibition and there was a themed corner entitiled Mood.
In our picture, taken by Ron Hill, are: Pauline Hill, Maurine Chown, Pauline Bonner, Evelyn Smith and Beryl Bartter.
