Daffodils were missed at Uckfield Horticultural Society show
Sunny dry weather over the last six weeks accelerated the growth of daffodils to such an extent that only late varieties were available for the Spring Show of Uckfield Horticultural Society.
Entries in the daffodil classes were 25 per cent down on last year but organisers said those staged were of a high quality and diverse varieties.
Other flowers, which would not normally be available for the show, were also in bloom thanks to the good weather, especially the flowering shrubs.
While overall entries were down 18 per cent because of the daffodils there was an increase in domestic and handicraft sections.
There were eye-catching flower arrangements with Easter Bonnets and Eggstravaganza entries including Easter eggs in their display.
There were also cakes, scones, jams and chutneys. Carrot cakes with iced tops were a great favourite.
There was a steady stream of visitors and trophies were presented by society president Mrs Elizabeth Green. She thanked everyone for their support of the society and made special mention of the organising committee which staged the show.
Thanks to Ron Hill for the photograph of horticultural society members Carol Hodge, Sue Harker and Dorothy Sparks.
